The Ghost in the Shell is a animated 1995 Japanese cyberpunk movie written by Kazunori It'' and directed by Mamoru Oshii. It is based on the comic books written by Mamoru Oshii. In 2029 humanity is connected into a worldwide computer network. High-tech criminal gangs operate extensive hacking operations. In response to this increasing threat, the government forms Section 9. Section 9 is a super-secret police unit made up of cyborgs specially designed to access the network anywhere on Earth. When a hacker known as Puppet Master (Tamio ''ki) starts to take over the minds of cyborgs, Section 9 swings into action. Agent Motoko Kusanagi (Atsuko Tanaka) is assigned the task of tracking down and arresting the Puppet Master. The investigation quickly uncovers a vast global conspiracy, one that threatens the very nature of humanity. The Ghost in the Shell is recognized as being an innovative work in the history of animation. It is also recognized as being a important work in the cyberpunk genre.moreless
