Ghost Town is a 2008 romantic comedy about a cynical hater of mankind being forced to look out for others. Manhattan dentist Bertram Pincus (Ricky Gervais) enters the hospital for a routine medical procedure but comes out with an unexpected side effect. He can now communicate with souls stuck in purgatory. Once the local ghosts realize they have an earthly ear, Betram finds himself stalked and chased through the city by spirits only he can see. In a city as vast as New York, there are many ghosts that need his help with their unfinished business. Former businessman Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear) negotiates a deal with the troubled dentist, he will keep the other spooks away if Bertram will ensure that Frank's widow Gwen (Tea Leoni) does not marry the dull but dependable attorney Richard (Billy Campbell). The anti-social Bertram attempts to woo Gwen away from Richard, but begins to question whether Frank may just be standing in her way to happiness.moreless

Smartly supernatural, and featuring sensational performances by Ricky Gervais and Tea Leoni, Ghost Town is a "Topper" for our times.

Audiences who feel battered by Hollywood's usual hard-sell approach to farce may be disarmed by Koepp's soft touch and inclined to credit blandness as understatement.
