PG-13

Ghost is a 1990 supernatural thriller starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, Tony Goldwyn and Whoopi Goldberg. The movie is about a banker, Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze), who is murdered by a thug, Willie Lopez (Rick Aviles), while he and his fiance, Molly Jensen (Demi Moore), are leaving the theater. After his death, Sam's ghost rises from his body but cannot be seen or heard by humans. While wandering around the streets, Sam comes across Ola Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg), a shady con artist, who pretends to be a medium. Realizing that Ola Mae can hear him, Sam convinces her to help him contact Molly, who he fears may still be in danger. Sam also stumbles upon the fact that his best friend, Carl Bruner (Tony Goldwyn), is not only involved in a money laundering scheme but is in cahoots with Willie. Sam must now save both Molly and Ola Mae from Carl's wrath and convince Molly that his spirit is watching over her.

Metacritic Score

  • 63

    Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert

One of the irritations of Ghost is that the Moore character is such a slow study.

  • 60

The New York Times Elvis Mitchell

Nothing if not earnest. It's also eccentric enough to remain interesting even when its ghost story isn't easy to believe.

  • 50

    Variety

An odd creation - at times nearly smothering in arty somberness, at others veering into good, wacky fun.
