Ghosts On The Loose is a 1943 classic categorized as part comedy, part drama, part horror. Jack (Rick Vallin) purchases a new, fully furnished home in the suburbs for himself and his wife, Betty (Ava Gardner). In the course of his purchase, Jack discovers the reason for the fantastic price he's paying: the alleged haunted house next door. When Jack's comically clumsy friends, The East Side Boys, get word of Jack and Betty's new home, they hustle and stumble their way to finding out his address. The boys intend to fix up Jack and Betty's new home before they arrive. Led by Mugs (Leo Gorcey), the boys mistakenly enter the wrong house and start redecorating. After a short time, some supernatural surprises frighten and intrigue the boys. The East Side Boys are foolish enough to get tricked by the ghosts. In reality, these ghosts are actually a group of ill-intentioned propagandists using the house for their own nefarious purposes. Emil (Bela Lugosi) heads up this group, keeping constant watch on the Boys and frightening them at every opportunity. Eventually, police officers arrive, followed by Jack and Betty, and everyone tries to make sense of the Ghosts On The Loose in the house next door.moreless
