Giant is a 1956 western romantic drama directed by George Stevens. The American Film Institute considers this movie one of the 100 greatest films ever made. In the film, Bick Benedict (Rock Hudson) owns a 500,000 acre ranch in Texas. Wealthy and unmarried, he runs the ranch with his sister, Luz (Carroll Baker). While visiting Dr. Horace Lynnton's (Paul Fix) farm in Maryland, Bick falls in love with the doctor's daughter, Leslie (Elizabeth Taylor). Bick wants to marry Leslie and bring her to his ranch in Texas. The couple follow through with their plan, despite Luz's hesitance to accept Leslie as part of the family. Leslie and Bick flourish in their relationship and she begins to make changes around the ranch. Bick and Luz resist Leslie's changes, but soon realize the outspoken young girl is right. The film also tells the story of the rivalry between the Benedicts' and Jett Rick (James Dean), a former poor stable hand who has become a cowboy and oil tycoon.moreless
