Gilda follows beautiful Gilda (Rita Hayworth), the new wife of Ballin Mundson (George Macready). Ballin doesn't know about his new wife's past with Johnny Farrell (Glenn Ford), a gambler who's gotten in trouble time and time again for cheating casinos. After getting into trouble at a high-class casino, he's taken to see the owner, Ballin. Always the fast talker, Johnny manages to get out of trouble and into Ballin's confidence and employment. Not knowing Gilda and Johnny had a relationship, which ended badly, he assigns the gambler to keep an eye on his wife and keep her faithful. Gilda chafes under the arrangement and tries everything she can to humiliate and infuriate Johnny and make him jealous. Ballin is also in trouble with some shady business associates from Germany. Feeling the heat from the cartel and law enforcement, he boards a plane to escape but the plane crashes into the ocean shortly after takeoff. Gilda, now wealthy with Ballin's fortune, is free to marry Johnny but their happiness remains out of reach. The 1946 drama was directed by Charles Vidor.moreless
