The Girl Who Came Back is a 1935 criminal romantic drama directed by Charles Lamont and based on the story written by Ewart Adamson, which tells the story of a girl who cannot escape her criminal past even though she tries hard to become a law-abiding citizen. Gilda Gillespie (Shirley Grey) used to be a member of a gang of counterfeiters, earning her living through crime and lies. She has had enough of the chaotic and dangerous lifestyle, and decides to become an honest woman. She changes her name to Mary Brown, and finds a good job in the local bank. She falls in love with one of her work colleagues, Bill Rhodes (Sidney Blackmer), and is happy to enjoy her fresh start in life. However, when her former criminal friends decide to rob her bank, escaping the past proves to be more difficult than she imagined, especially when her boyfriend is kidnapped by the outlaws. The only way to save him is to collaborate with the police, even if it means revealing her past secrets.moreless
