God Told Me To is a 1976 horror film where a New York City detective examines a chain of murders that were said to be committed by people who said that God had told them to commit such acts. Among the crimes are a sniper who picks off targets from a tower, a mild-mannered father who kills his entire family and a cop who opens fire during a St. Patrick's Day parade. Detective Peter Nicholas (Tony Lo Bianco) investigates the cases and all killers admit their guilt along with their admissions that God played an influential part. As the case moves along, a Christ-like figure named Bernard Phillips (Richard Lynch) seems to appear to all the killers and Nicholas has an uneasy feeling that his own fate may be linked to this man as well. His worries are confirmed when he speaks with Phillip's mother and learns details of the man's horrific and unnatural birth. God Told Me To was directed by Larry Cohen and later released to television audiences under the title of "Demon," after executives felt the original theatrical title was too controversial.
