Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla is a 2002 Japanese monster film and the 26th installment of the Godzilla series. Like other films in the millennium series, this film is a direct sequel to the original 1954 Godzilla movie. After the first Godzilla was destroyed at the end of the original film, scientists gathered the monster’s bones for research. The Japanese Self-Defense Force was organized to defend the country from future giant monster attacks. After a new Godzilla attacked Tateyama, Chibain in 1999, scientists got to work constructing a weapon capable of defeating the atomic dinosaur. They use the bones of the first Godzilla to construct their own giant monster, a mechanical copy of Godzilla. Mechagodzilla is equipped with a state-of-the-art Absolute Zero cannon capable of freezing huge objects, leaving them vulnerable to deadly attacks. Ace pilot Lieutenant Akane Yashiro is placed in charge of the mechanical beast. Everyone feels safe for a time, but when Godzilla returns something goes terribly wrong and Mechagodzilla turns into the humans’ worst nightmare. Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla was a great success for the classic monster action franchise, and it stars Yumiko Shaku as the brave Lieutenant Yashiro.moreless
