Godzilla and Other Movie Monsters is a 1998, 88 minute documentary from writer-director Robert Weaver. The documentary is mainly a history of giant monster movies focusing on Godzilla. For example, it reveals that The Beginning of the End was the first giant bug. It portends to be the end-all documentary on Godzilla and comes close. There is more than enough of interest for casual genre fans in that it contains footage of several movies that may never make it to English DVD (Siegfried, One Million BC, Valley of the Dragons, Frankenstein Conquers the World, Atragon, King Kong Escapes, Goliath Vs the Dragon, etc). It features tons of footage from other movies and it is also often used for talking about history (for example, it mentions Pearl Harbor and then shows about five minutes of the movie Tora, Tora, Tora) or science (there are tons of clips from movies like The Quest for Fire when discussing cavemen. Use of classical music standards like Swan Lake, Ride of the Valkyries and Pictures at an Exhibition in the soundtrack add atmosphere.moreless
