Going Ape! is the goofy 1981 comedy written and directed by Jeremy Joe Kronsberg that stars a young Danny DeVito and an even younger Tony Danza. Foster (Tony Danza) happens across a bizarre kind of luck when his estranged father and circus owner leaves him his fortune, five million dollars. However, there is a pretty significant string attached, one that hangs by a prehensile thumb. The money comes with three orangutans and an obligation to keep them alive, healthy, and close at hand for the next five years. In fact, if Foster at any time loses, gives away, or accidentally fails to keep alive one of the apes, he forfeits the entire fortune to the zoological society. The greedy zoological society's leader, Lazlo (Danny DeVito), would be more than happy to see exactly that happen. So Lazlo sets out to do everything he can to undermine Foster's chances. Lazlo brings in a circle of gangsters with results that make everyone go bananas.moreless
