Going Overboard is a 1989 comedy written and directed by Valerie Breiman, which tells the story of a struggling comedian who gets a shot at performing on the big stage when destiny makes him the substitute for an accomplished comedian who is found missing under bizarre circumstances. Schecky Moskowitz (Adam Sandler) aspires to become an accomplished comedian someday, but, until then, he is forced to earn his living by working as a waiter on a cruise ship. Schecky admires Dickie Diamonds (Scott LaRose), who is the ship's brilliant and charming entertainer, for his superb comedic talent and his success with women. During a terrorist attack that creates chaos among the ship's crew and passengers, Dickie is found to be missing, and people presume that he has been lost in the ocean. Schecky realizes that this may be his unique chance to prove his worth as a comedian in front of the ship's audience when he takes the stage as Dickie's replacement.
