Good News is a musical comedy based on a 1920s Broadway production. It takes place at the fictional Tait College. There, football is the biggest thing on campus, and treated by most as something far more important than education. Tom Marlowe (Peter Lawford) is the star of Tait's football team. He put the college on the map and is now a celebrity wherever he goes. All the girls flock around him, often ignoring the other players completely. Tom doesn't mind. He's always seen with a new girl on his arm and a crowd of hopefuls following in his tracks, waiting for him to get tired of his present date and pick someone new. Only one girl isn't caught up in the spell: Connie Lane (June Allyson), a hard-working student, who works part time as the school librarian. When Tom bombs his latest French exam, Connie is assigned to be his tutor and the two fall in love. There is only one catch, if they're going to be together, Tom needs to lose his next football game and shed his superstar status.moreless
