Goodbye, Columbus is romantic drama from 1969. Larry Peerce directed the film based on Philip Roth's novella of the same name. One of the two main characters is Neil Klugman (Richard Benjamin), a library clerk, formerly in the army, and a college dropout. His middle class family is in Arizona, he is spending the summer with his aunt in New York, and has no real plan for his future. The other main character is Brenda Patimkin (Ali MacGraw), a college student from a close-knit and upper class family who has returned home for the summer. Neil and Brenda meet at a country club party where Neil is a guest and Brenda belongs to the club. The two take an immediate interest in each other and begin a summer romance. Brenda's family, especially her mother, takes an immediate dislike towards Neil. Brenda's father assures his wife that it's just a summer fling and Brenda will soon marry a proper man just as they have planned since she was born. Watch this classic romantic film to see if Neil and Brenda can bridge the gap between their two worlds.moreless
