2009
Rating:

Grace is the 2009 cult horror favorite written and directed by Paul Solet. The film concerns Madeline, her step mother Vivian, and their husbands Michael and Henry. Madeline and Vivian disagree on many things when it comes to mothering. Also involved is Madeline's midwife Patricia, who will help in the birth of their daughter. Soon after this Madeline and Michael are in a serious car accident, in which the baby inside Madeline is killed. Madeline refuses to accept the death of her child, and carries it the rest of the term regardless. The baby is born and Madeline holds it in her arms while it miraculously comes back to life. The baby is seemingly perfectly happy and a relieved Madeline brings her new daughter home, which she names Grace. Vivian craves the feeling of being a mother again, actually needing to lactate her breasts again. Then weird things begin happening with Grace. Flies are attracted to her, flocking her room, she has a weird smell and only blood can seem to fight off her hunger. These horrific events cause Madeline to slowly fall apart, as any parent would.moreless

Grace doesn't need a high body count to frighten, although its gore is stomach-turning. It's a horrifying meditation on the unbreakable union of mother and child.
