Gracie is a historical sports drama film about Gracie Bowen's (Carly Schroeder) fight to give women an equal opportunity to play in competitive soccer. The film opens up on Gracie's older brother, Johnny (Jesse Lee Soffee), coaching her on how to hit a bottle off the hood of a car twenty yards away. Johnny is regarded as a football star in his local high school, and when his sister complains that kicking the ball while remembering all his advice is too complicated, he assures her that she can do anything if she puts her mind to it. We hear the sound of the bottle breaking upon impact. When they reach their home Johnny is scolded for being late to his coaching session by their father, Bryan Bowen (Dermot Mulroney). Gracie expresses interest in joining in the football training with her older brothers but her father is having none of it and disapproves of Gracie's enthusiasm. We later learn that Bryan had a career in football and is now coaching his two sons. Will Gracie manage to make football equal for both sexes and become a football star herself?moreless
