Gray Lady Down tells a story about a nuclear submarine that got struck by a freighter while returning to port. Damaged by the accident, the submarine, USS Neptune, sunk into a canyon ledge above the ocean floor. The captain Paul Blanchard (Charlton Heston) radioed for urgent help from the Navy's rescue submarine. However, in deep waters that defied conventional rescue efforts and at risk of sinking even deeper, yet another disaster struck. A landslide caused debris to block the submarine's escape hatch, halting the Navy's rescue efforts. At the face of such grim situation, the head of rescue efforts was forced to warn Blanchard's wife to expect the worst. In a glimmer of hope, another small experimental submersible, helmed by a maverick officer (David Carradine) heard of the situation and volunteered to rescue the crew of the endangered submarine. A 1978 disaster film, Gray Lady Down stars Charlton Heston (Planet of the Apes), and is the first film Christopher Reeve (Superman) appeared in. This movie is adapted from Event 1000, a novel by David Lavallee.moreless
