Grease is the 1978 hit musical featuring featuring a young John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, and is now available on Amazon. Grease tells the story of 1950's high school adolescence and the trials and tribulations of finding ones identity in a world of cliques, posers, and peer-pressure. Travolta plays Danny Zuko, a member of the leather-wearing, hair-slicking T-Birds who falls in love with (what was supposed to be a summer fling) wholesome Australian exchange student Sandy Olsson. When school starts up again, Danny and Sandy are shocked to find out they go to the same school, where the freedom of those summer nights no longer apply. Danny is no longer the sensitive nice guy he was, and Sandy is left heartbroken, and takes comfort with her new friends, the gum chewing, flashy and sassy Pink Ladies. She does her best to fit in to her new school while ignoring Danny's distasteful bravado. The two soon realize the strength of their true feelings for each other but must give up there reputations around school (the most valued high school currency) to finally be together.moreless

The New York Times Vincent Canby

GREASE is not really the 1950's teen-age movie musical it thinks it is, but a contemporary fantasy about a 1950's teen-age musical—a larger, funnier, wittier and more imaginative...

Grease has got it, from the outstanding animated titles of John Wilson all the way through the rousing finale as John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John ride off into teenage happiness.

    Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert

No revival, however joyously promoted, can conceal the fact that this is just an average musical, pleasant and upbeat and plastic.
