Greased Lightning is a 1977 action-packed comedy that tells the story of the first African-American stock racing car champion. Wendell Scott (Richard Pryor) starts out as a cab driver, but eventually turns to a life of light crime as a moonshine runner. Scott becomes a very skilled driver, able to race at high speeds and outmaneuver anybody on his tail. Scott begins to realize that he could make a career for himself as a professional race car driver. The only problem is that the racing field is dominated by white drivers, without much acceptance for Wendell Scott. Determined to become a professional despite the racism he faces, Scott perseveres and is soon racing and winning against plenty of fierce competition. The story highlights Scott's bravery and triumph as a race car driver staying true to his dreams in an unwelcoming world, while also offering plenty of humorous moments and non-stop racing action sequences.
