Great Guns enlists the classic comedy duo of Laurel & Hardy into the Army. In the 1941 outing, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy work as a butler and chauffeur to a rich and sickly boss, Dan Forrester (Dick Nelson). In spite of his severe allergies, Dan unexpectedly gets drafted and sent to boot camp. His loyal employees Stan and Ollie decide to join him. After a lifetime of being coddled by his indulgent aunts, Dan suddenly blossoms in the service. He even starts to woo the lovely Ginger Hammond (Sheila Ryan), which puts him in competition with the gruff Sergeant Hippo (Edmund MacDonald). Of course, Stan and Ollie get themselves into plenty of messes, like a crow taking up residence in Ollie's pants, and finding themselves on the wrong side of firing practice. Director Monty Banks supplies the visual gags, and madcap episodes that Laurel and Hardy fans have come to expect.
