Green Plaid Shirt is a love story which depicts the gay lifestyle from early 1980s to the mid-1990s. Philip (Gregory Phelan) meets Guy (Kevin Spirtas) at a garage sale where they are both looking for a green plaid shirt. They go their separate ways but run into each other again. This time they begin a romantic relationship and eventually move in together. Later, Guy leaves Philip for another man. He moves back in with Philip, however Guy is now sick with HIV. Philip has to cope with his partner being sick as well as many of his friends dying from AIDS. The story is not told in a linear sense, but switches between past events and futures events. Green Plaid Shirt looks at many of issues in the gay community during that time, from trying to find a community, to open relationships and polygamy, to the AIDS scare and coping with the discovery of AIDS.
