Gunfighter follows Hopalong Cassidy (Chris Lybbert) as his courage and moral fortitude are tested by a gang of cattle rustlers in this homage to classic B-movie Westerns. The tale begins with a stranger (Martin Sheen) telling the story to a down-and-out songwriter (Robert Carradine) in an old, abandoned saloon. As the stranger's story begins, the dusty, dirty scene is replaced by a vibrant, bustling town. Hopalong Cassidy was the hero of the town, and the townsfolk depended on him to keep them safe and secure from the outlaws that roamed the West. Cattle rustler Tex (Louis Schwiebert) is foiled in his attempts to terrorize the town when Hopalong shoots the gun from his hand and makes a fool of him in front of his gang. To get revenge, he kidnaps Hopalong's girl, sending Hopalong and a posse of riders into the wilderness to rescue her. Christopher Coppola wrote and directs the 1999 Western.
