Movie Summary

Iain Softley

Hackers is a high-tech thriller brought to you by Iain Softley (The Skeleton Key, The Wings of the Dove, Inkheart). The film centers around a group of mischievous high school students as they hack computer systems and break the law. Hackers stars Jonny Lee Miller, Angelina Jolie, Jesse Bradford, Mathew Lillard, Fisher Stevens, Renoly Santiago, and Laurence Mason. Dade Murphy (Jonny Lee Miller) has always had a knack for computers. After causing a stock market crash by using his computer as a young boy, Dade was prohibited from even touching a PC until he turned 18. After his eighteenth birthday passes, Dade has no reluctance in returning to the cyber scene he was once a part of. This time he recruits his fellow high school friends, all of them hackers. These include Kate (Angelina Jolie), a cyber gamer; Joey (Jesse Bradford), a newcomer to the scene; Emmanuel "Cereal Killer" (Matthew Lillard), a die-hard punk; Nikon (Lawrence Mason), who is blessed (cursed?) with a photographic memory; and Phantom Phreak (Renoly Santiago), an expert with telephones. As the gang delves deeper into a forbidden cyber world, they accidentally stumble upon a corrupt corporate hacker (Fisher Stevens) with a cyber plot to cause a lot of financial damage. Has Dade stuck his nose where it doesn't belong again?
