Hannah Free was directed by Wendy Jo Carlton and released in 2009. It is the story of star-crossed lovers, Hannah (Sharon Gless) and Rachel (Maureen Gallagher). Growing up in a small town, being gay was difficult, and Hannah and Rachel's experience was no exception. They had been in love since childhood, but both took separate paths. Hannah traveled the world; as an openly gay woman. Rachel stayed in town, married a man and became a mother. The film is set in an retirement home, with Rachel in a coma, and Hannah in the next room. Hannah "talks" to Rachel through flashbacks, reliving various moments of joy and sorrow in the lifelong journey as closeted true loves. With the difficulties of their life apparent, Hannah Free explores the complications that these caused in their relationship.
