Happily Ever After is a 2004 French film from writer, director and actor Yvan Attal. This movie plays with the humanistic themes of marriage and love while tackling the problems related with fidelity and monogamy. Attal veils these larger themes by presenting them in the form of a crisp and romantic comedy. Happily Ever After follows three friends and their tumultuous relationships with women. The problems they face are not only relatable to the audience, but also humorous. The film opens with one long-term couple Vincent (Yvan Attal) and Gabrielle (Charlotte Gainsbourg) pretending to meet and flirt capriciously in a dim bar. Bachelor playboy Fred (Alain Cohen) secretly longs for the end to his lifestyle and to take on the strains that come with committed relationships. In this way throughout the film, Attal makes light of the problems related with every long-term relationship, ultimately attempting to answer why we all still feel unfulfilled, even when we have a committed life partner.
