Happy Ending is a 2004 documentary by Chris Irrizarry, filmed while he was a student at Brooklyn's Fort Hamilton High School. At the time of the film, Chris lives with his grandmother. His drug-addicted mother has not seen him in three years. She still lives in a rundown neighborhood of Philadelphia where Chris spent the first ten years of his life, occasionally going to school and hanging out with other children of addicts while his mother got high and sold drugs. His stepfather, also an addict and dealer, cared for Chris during his mother's frequent stays in jail. Chris was finally removed from his mother's home but he dreams of being with her again. Hearing that she is clean, he heads to Philadelphia intent on convincing her to come back to New York. Scenes of the old neighborhood, difficult interviews, moments of self-reflection and powerful music all tell of Chris' search for a new understanding of love, family and addiction.
