Happy Gilmore is a sports comedy film that follows the career change of hockey player Happy Gilmore. After failing to make numerous hockey teams, Happy decides it is time to make a career change. Meanwhile, Happy finds out that his Grandma Gilmore is about to lose her home due to back taxes she owes. He makes a vow to save his grandmother's home. While playing golf one day, former pro golfer, Chubbs Peterson, sees Happy's shot and realizes he is talented. He tells Happy playing golf could earn him a large amount of money, so he gets the idea to put his hockey career on hold to play golf. After winning a local tournament, Happy decides to enter a pro tour. A series of comedic events ensue, many revolving around Shooter McGavin, Happy's fellow golfer and enemy. Shooter is determined to make sure Happy does not win the pro tour.
