Happy-Go-Lucky is a dramatic comedy, written and directed Mike Leigh, that features the life and adventures of an elementary school teacher. Poppy (Sally Hawkins) loves to smile, loves to laugh and loves to wear colorful, outdated clothing. She feels a great deal of empathy for people from all walks of life and makes a point to engage those that seem to need a good dose of cheer. When her bike is stolen, she does not lament the crime; she decides to broaden her horizons by taking driving lessons. She is paired with Scott (Eddie Marsan), a driving instructor with a personality very different from her own. He rejects all her attempts at humor and small talk but that doesn't stop Poppy from trying to joke with him at each of her lessons. The film also chronicles her adventures in the classroom and her attempts to learn the art of flamenco dance. Seeking to explore what truly makes people happy, Happy-Go-Lucky shows how your attitude can change the course of your life.moreless
