Happy Together is a 1997 Hong Kong movie from internationally acclaimed writer-director Wong Kar-wai, who has risen to worldwide popularity for his unique stories of human relationships crafted with the affection and attention to detail of a master storyteller. The film follows the story of two gay men who travel from Hong Kong to Argentina. They’re relationship has been on the rocks for a while, and they hope the vacation will allow them to find some new ground for their love to stand on. It soon becomes clear that happiness isn’t ever going to appear from nowhere. If the two men hope to make a life together, it will take a lot of work on both their parts. Through the many separations and reunions of these two men searching for happiness, Won Kar-wai paints a bittersweet portrait of human love. Happy Together was well received by critics and audiences, and earned Wong Kar-wai the Best Director award at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival.moreless
