Hardcore is a 1979 drama starring George C. Scott as a highly religious man thrust into the world of pornographic film making while searching for his missing daughter. Jake Van Dorn (Scott) lives a devout life as a Calvinist living in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He's a successful man, with a respected local business. Van Dorn is a single father whose daughter is a quiet girl who follows his rules and stays in the faith. At least, that's what Van Dorn thought. One day, Kristen disappears during a trip to California with her church. Van Dorn hires a private investigator to find his daughter. Andy Mast (Peter Boyle) doesn't find her, but he does discover an 8mm film depicting a graphic sex scene between Kristen and two young men. Disturbed and disbelieving, Van Dorn travels to California to track Kristen down himself and figure out what has happened to his graceful daughter. Hardcore is written and directed by Paul Schrader who also wrote the screenplay for Martin Scorsese's classic Taxi Driver, another film about the gritty underworlds of modern society.
