Harem Suare is a turkish drama film released in 1999. The movie tells the emotional tale of Safiye (Marie Gillain), a young woman, as the Ottoman Empire is coming to an end. Born into a life of poverty, she is left with no choice but to use her body to survive. The sultan, begins to like Safiye and she soon become his favorite concubine. As their relationship continues to grow, the sultan makes Safiye his wife. Safiye begins to gain power throughout the Empire and immediately starts meeting secretly with Nadir (Alex Descas), the man in charge of the concubines. The sultan, not knowing of her affair, continues to keep Safiye as his wife while trying to defend his falling empire. As the empire continues to fall, the Sultan goes to Europe, leaving everything behind. Safiye, left alone with no one to defend her and her fellow concubines' rights, fights for her voice to be heard.
