Rating:

Harvard Man is a 2001 comedy crime drama released by Lionsgate written and directed by James Toback (Bugsy, Tyson, Black and White, The Beat That My Heart Skipped). The film features Adrian Grenier (Entourage, AI) as a Harvard University basketball player in money trouble who is conned by his shady girlfriend (Sarah Michelle Gellar, Cruel Intentions, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Scream 2, She's All That) to throw a basketball game for money. Add in subplots about the mob, a couple of shaddy FBI agents (including a weird performance by Eric Stoltz, Killing Zoe, The Fly II, Pulp Fiction, Mask, Anaconda), a teacher he has an affair with (Joey Lauren Adams, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Big Daddy) and a bizarre drug trip segment and you have another surreal Toback stew. Also starring Rebecca Gayheart (Scream 2, Urban Legend, Urban Legends: Final Cut, Jawbreaker, Nothing to Lose).

    Los Angeles Times Kevin Thomas
