He Died with a Falafel in His Hand is a 2001 Australian film based on the novel of the same name by John Birmingham. As young Danny (Noah Taylor) travels around the east coast of Australia, he lives in various shared housing situations that give him a unique view into the inner workings of friendships, love, and his own mind. Each of the housing experiences form short vignettes that poignantly depict the momentary beauty in the existence of love and the search for meaning. The film was praised by critics for a story as quirky as it's title as well as the film's ability to cause reflection on the most mundane of activities. Directed by Richard Lowenstein, He Died with a Falafel in His Hand also stars Emily Hamilton, Romane Bohringer, Alex Menglet, Brett Stewart, Damian Walshe-Howling, Torquil Neilson, Sophie Lee, and Francis McMahon.
