Heartbeat Detector was originally released under the French title La Question Humaine or "The human question". The 2007 film tells the story of Simon Kessler (Mathieu Amalric) a psychologist who works in the human resource department of a German of petrochemical corporation. Kessler has recently been working on an employment quality and retention program, which led the company to fire more than half its employees. He has now been assigned the task of interviewing, and evaluating the professional effectiveness of the company's French CEO Mathias Just (Michael Lonsdale). During his investigation Kessler discovers that Just has a dark past and that its impact on the corporation cannot be denied. He is forced to question his physical and mental state as his discoveries lead him further and further from what he one believed was true, and his confidence in his work begins to falter. The film was nominated for awards at the Copenhagen Film Festival, the Cesar Awards, the Gijon Film Festival, the Sao Paulo Film Festival and the Chicago Film Festival.moreless
