Heat is a classic action flick about a washed up Las Vegas tough guy looking for ways to get out of the game for good. Vietnam vet Nick Scaliente (Burt Reynolds) is just about as tough as they come, with a lifetime of hard hits on his resume. At one time he was one of the mafia's most reliable thugs, but his ego and out of control gambling habit have left him struggling to find work as a chaperone, providing private protection to anyone willing to hire him. Looking for ways to raise the money for a one way ticket to Venice, Italy, Scaliente and his partner Pinchus Zion (Howard Hesseman) are willing to take just about any job, like teaching wimpy computer geek Cyrus Kinnick (Peter MacNichol) to fend for himself. But when Nick's neighbor Holly (Karen Young) requests his services to get back at the son of a mob boss (Neill Barry) who beat her up, Nick turns down the offer, knowing full well the kind of people he'd be up against. After further pleading and seeing his friend suffer, Scaliente reluctantly agrees, setting himself up against his old employer, in what will be his biggest fight so far. Dick Richards directs this hard nosed film, featuring a full serving of memorable fight scenes from legendary bruiser Reynolds.moreless
