Heaven Can Wait is a 1978 Academy Award-winning comedy directed by Warren Beatty and Buck Henry. It is based on Harry Segall's 1938 play of the same name. Joe Pendleton (Warren Beatty) is the star quarterback of the Los Angeles Rams football team, which is about to go to the Super Bowl. When he is hit by a truck, his inexperienced guardian angel (Buck Henry), who wrongly believes that Joe is dying, takes his soul to Heaven. After archangel Mr. Jordan (James Mason) realizes that the guardian angel made a mistake, he offers Joe a chance to live on Earth once again. Unfortunately, his old body was cremated, so Joe decides to become millionaire Leo Farnsworth (Warren Beatty), who has recently been murdered by his wife Julia (Dyan Cannon). As he begins his new life, Joe attempts to become a football player again while trying to thwart the treacherous plans of Julia, who is not too happy that her husband is still alive.moreless
