Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison places marine Sergeant Allison (Robert Mitchum) and Sister Angela (Deborah Kerr) on a deserted island in the South Pacific, where love battles religious beliefs during a traumatic ordeal. The Japanese sink the Sergeant's submarine and he becomes marooned on an unmarked island. Still dazed from drifting at sea, Sgt Allison thinks he's hallucinating when he finds the beautiful Sister Angela alone in an abandoned church. He soon discovers that the Japanese attacked her settlement where she is now the only survivor. Although Sister Angela has not officially taken her vows, she makes it very clear to Allison that she intends to become a real nun as soon as she gets back home. No one else is on the island, until the Japanese arrive to set up a camp. Both castaways hide in the jungle, and Allison develops feelings for Angela. The Japanese leave unexpectedly, and Allison finds a bottle of wine left behind. He gets drunk and proclaims his love for the nun. Sister Angela runs scared into the jungle and takes a fall. Alison finds her the next day and while he carries her to camp, he sees the Japanese have returned. Not only have they returned, but they also have prepared a trap to kill on incoming American attack. With many things to deal with, Sergeant may need to use his faith in God to resolve the situation.moreless
