Heaven Must Wait is a dramatic film directed by Tom Reeve that centers on Raymond (Andrew McCarthy) whose life is changed for the better when he gains an inheritance in the English countryside. A reputable black sheep of his family, Raymond has spent most of his life taking his half-brother Otis's (Sonny Shroyer) handouts. When Raymond loses most of his life, including apartment, job, and dignity, he convinces Otis to send him to England to claim an inherited property. Of course, what he expected of his new home was nothing as he expected as he discovers the supposedly sprawling manor was a ramshackle stone church in dire need of repair. Disappointed, Raymond thinks nothing of handing over the property to sleazy Malcolm Slee (Bill Treacher), a businessman out to dismantle the place stone by stone in search of some hidden treasure. As he slowly begins to get to know the local residents, including a family with their children living on the grounds, and the pretty local bed and breakfast owner Rachel (Louise Lombard), Raymond gets help from a young orphan named Diggity (Max Dolbey) in order to change his bad luck into good.moreless
