Heidi, an adaptation of Johanna Spyri's classic children's novel, is a 1968 drama directed by Delbert Mann. After her aunt decides that she can no longer keep her, young orphan Heidi (Jennifer Edwards) goes to live with her maternal grandfather Jonas (Michael Redgrave) in the Swiss Alps. Once Heidi arrives, she quickly befriends Peter (John Moulder-Brown), a goatherd close to her own age, but she has a difficult time connecting with her reclusive grandfather. As Heidi begins to remind Jonas of his beloved daughter, he slowly opens his heart to her and decides that he wants to keep her forever. However, Heidi's wealthy uncle Herr Richard Sesemann (Maximilian Schell) comes to the mountain and persuades Jonas that Heidi will be better off with him. Heidi reluctantly goes to live with Richard, his disabled daughter Klara (Zuleika Robson), and Klara's nanny, Fr''ulein Rottenmeier (Jean Simmons). As Heidi forms a bond with young Klara and her new family, she must also cope with the homesickness she feels for her grandfather.moreless
