Hellfire is a 1949 western directed by R.G. Springsteen. Zeb Smith (Bill Elliott) is a hardened gambler with a history of petty crime whose life changes when a bullet intended for him strikes and mortally wounds an itinerant preacher. Zeb pledges to fulfill the preacher's dying wish and gives up his gun to undertake a mission to build a church. Zeb soon becomes frustrated in trying to raise construction funds and turns to bounty hunting. He goes after Doll Brown (Marie Windsor) a wanted woman who carries a $5,000 bounty. Doll turns out to be hardened herself, and taking her in proves to be no easy matter. The situation is further complicated when a sheriff and a group of bounty hunters arrive, also looking for Doll. But Zeb sees an opportunity for everyone to follow a path of redemption. Will the old west cooperate with Zeb's attempt to find salvation or will he be lost in the chaos of the times?moreless
