Movie Summary

Director:
Clive Barker
Released:
1987
Rating:
R
Hellraiser is the first film directed by author Clive Barker. He adapted the movie's story from his popular novella, The Hellbound Heart. The main storyline of the movie begins when Frank Cotton (Sean Chapman) comes in contact with a wooden cube that is actually a portal to Hell. Frank loses his mortal body to three demons called the Cenobites. He eventually becomes a creature (Oliver Smith) who is found hiding upstairs in the new home of his half-brother, Larry (Andrew Robinson) and Larry's adulterous wife who had an affair with Frank, Julia (Clare Higgins). When Larry injures himself one day while in the couple's attic of their home, the blood from the cut brings Frank back into our dimension. However, the only way for him to get his body back in full is from the blood of human sacrifices. Julia helps him do this by supplying him with the bodies.

This is a movie without wit, style or reason, and the true horror is that actors were made to portray, and technicians to realize, its bankruptcy of imagination.
