Hell's Island is a 1955 film-noir adventure drama directed by Phil Karlson. The film chronicles the life of Mike Cormack (John Payne), a hard-drinking former district attorney. After his fianc''e, Janet Martin (Mary Murphy), leaves him, Mike's life falls apart. He loses his job in the Los Angeles County district attorney's office and ends up working as a bouncer in a Las Vegas Casino. At the casino Mike meets Barzland (Francis L. Sullivan), who offers him money to track down a missing ruby that vanished when a plane disappeared in the Caribbean. Barzland convinces Mike to take the job by telling him his ex-fianc''e, now married to the pilot of the missing plane, may be in possession of the ruby. Mike flies down to the remote island of Santo Rosario to track down his ex-fiance and recover the missing ruby. When he gets there, he finds more than he bargains for and gets tangled-up in a web of lies as he falls for his ex-fiance all over again. Lovers of the film-noir genre will enjoy the twists and turns of this hard-charging drama.
