Hemingway in Spain is a fictional history that follows the well-known and loved author on a journey through Spain during the Spanish Civil war. While Hemingway and his main love, Maria search for his arch-nemesis, Franco, they meet many famous people - both living and dead. These encounters offer some singular views on topics such as truth, beauty, love, war and art. This is filmmaker David P. Reiter's first film, and uses the book Hemingway in Spain and Selected Poems, by the same author, as a major source. Reiter has taken the fantastical elements in Hemingway's words and turned them into a visual documentary - much of which is gleaned from several research trips to Spain. This time-travelling movie is primarily a collection of images that adhere to the magical spirit of Hemingway's writing. Reiter voices over these images and snippets of video, narrating the whirlwind storyline and offering literary, cultural and historical insights.
