Hennessy is the 1975 psychological drama that captures the intense thirst for revenge erupting from the battles in Northern Ireland. Niall Hennessy (Rod Steiger) is an Irishman and demolitions expert working for the IRA who accompanies his family to a supposedly non-violent protest rally against the British in Belfast. There he witnesses the murder of his family by a British officer. Exploding with revenge, Hennessy sets out to make of himself a living bomb, aimed at destroying the Parliament and the Queen. Inspector Hollis (Richard Johnson) discovers the plan and sets out on a course to intercept the planned mass murder. What unfolds is a gripping drama as time ticks down towards the unavoidable disaster, as Hennessy becomes increasingly convinced that what he is doing is the only way to justly avenge his family. Richard Johnson also co-wrote the film, and the film also starts a young Patrick Stewart as an IRA thug.
