Henry Miller Asleep and Awake is an extended interview the famous author, Henry Miller, famous author of "Tropic of Cancer", Tropic of Capricorn". Both novels were banned in the UK and USA until the 1960's, when Miller then became a cultural icon. Miller was also famous for his sexual exploits and volatile personality. Most of the interview is conducted in the bathroom of Miller's house where he gives a tour of all the art, extremely valuable in most cases, that hangs on his walls. Each painting that Miller stops before inspires another story that may be wonderful and may be horrific. It is impossible to know what will come out of Henry Miller's mouth. He also talks about his dreams and his nightmares, and waking hallucinations. Miller admits several times that he does not know what true reality is. He seems more than eccentric; Miller is irritable and blames much of his life for it. He feels enslaved to his art of writing, as well as his home in New York City. Miller is haunted by bad memories and bad dreams that intermingle. He takes a walk and describes his neighborhood poorly, and says he hates it. Miller repeats that he doesn't know what is real, or even if he is himself. The viewer may wonder if this is his art speaking or if these are the views of the artists himself.moreless
