Henry VIII and His Six Wives is a 1972 biographical drama that presents the many marriages and political intrigues of the infamous King of England (Keith Michell). Although his first marriage to Katherine of Aragon (Frances Cuka) began happily, Henry's frustration at the lack of a male heir leads him to fall in love with Lady Anne Boleyn (Charlotte Rampling). His determination to divorce Katherine and wed Anne leads to England's break with the Roman Catholic Church and the formation of the Church of England. When Anne fails to produce a son, he accuses her of infidelity and sends her to the Tower of London for beheading. Although his third wife, Jane Seymour (Jane Asher), finally delivers Edward, she dies shortly after his birth. He later marries a dowdy princess, Anne of Cleves (Jenny Bos), a flirtatious girl, Lady Catherine Howard (Lynne Frederick) and a loyal widow, Catherine Parr (Barbara Leigh-Hunt). As the years and marriages take their toll on the once handsome prince, he grows into a fat, unhappy and lonely ruler.moreless
