Movie Summary

Bruce Beresford
Her Alibi is a 1989 romantic comedy starring Tom Selleck and Paulina Porizkova in a story about a beautiful Romanian woman on trial for murder in America, and the struggling novelist who uses her story to jump-start his career—and his sex life. Phil Blackwood (Selleck) and his agent Sam (William Daniels) have tried for years to to sell a smash-hit mystery novel, but so far Phil's work hasn't found mainstream success of critical attention. He decides to try a different approach after he sees Nina (Porizkova), a drop-dead gorgeous woman with a mysterious past. He first encounters Nina while observing a trial, hoping to find some material for his next novel. When he pursues a relationship with Nina, the sexy foreigner with criminal ties leads him down a path of subterfuge and steamy passion that before long has him writing a hot new mystery, with himself as a main character. Her Alibi is a fun love story with a gritty twist from writer Charlie Peters and director Bruce Beresford.moreless

A romantic comedy with enough gimmicks to fill a dime-store thriller -- see Tom almost get run over; see Tom fall in the pool; see Tom get an arrow in his rear. [3 Feb 1989, p.C1]
