Herbie Hancock: Possibilities (2006) is a documentary about famed jazz pianist Herbie Hancock and his collaborations and musical experimentations with pop stars of all genres. As the camera follows him for over a year and a half, they reveal the methods and techniques used to create his latest musical work, "Possibilities," while attempting to show the introspective side of Hancock. The setting is mostly his studio in New York, where he works with paramount artists such as Sting, Christina Aguilera, Trey Anastasio, Annie Lennox, John Mayer and Carlos Santana, only to name a few. As he coaches these artists to produce the sounds he imagines, his earlier career is referenced and reflected upon by all of the cast. This documentary is riddled with archive material and his personal memories of working with Miles Davis, performing with Wayne Shorter and leading the Headhunters. Directed by Doug Biro and Jon Fine, this film is a behind-the-scenes look at Herbie Hancock's musical processes and productions.moreless
