    • QUOTES (9)

      • Lysia: Rules are, no small talk, just sex.
Zeus: Ah, I see. (laughing and laying back) Well, as you wish!

      • Zeus: (When Lysia orders him to strip) I beg you to please be gentle with me. Or if you wish, rough!

      • Lysia: To Hercules) If it were up to me, you wouldn't be caged. You'd be buried.

      • Hippolyta: Men can learn nothing except to deceive and dominate and kill.
Hercules: So show me another way!
        Hippolyta: No!
Hercules: I don't think you could even if you wanted to.
Hippolyta: And why do you say that?
Hercules: Because you don't know any other way. You've become exactly like the men you hate.

      • Lysia: I'm sure you're used to having your way with women. I bet they just fall at your feet wherever you go. Well, not here. (Lysia kicks Hercules' legs out from under him) Here, you fall at our feet!

      • Iolaus: (As his fiancee prepares dinner for them) So Hercules, what do you think?
Hercules: I think there's a weird smell coming from the kitchen.

      • Alcmene: So, are you going to tell me how you got that cut or not?
Hercules: I met a kid on the road. She turned into a thing. It was completely unprovoked.
Alcmene: Another one of Hera's creations, no doubt. That bitch!

      • Iolaus: (as he lays dying in Hercules' arms) We fought well, you and me... didn't we?
Hercules: You're not gonna die, Iolaus, you can't! You said we'd go down together, remember? Back to back, heroes!
        Iolaus: Can't... wait... Hercules...
        Hercules: Iolaus, no!
Iolaus: Tell Ania, how much I wanted to be her husband... Goodbye, my friend. (Iolaus dies)

      • Hercules: Aren't you even the least bit scared of what's out there in those woods?
Iolaus: Please, there's nothing anywhere out there that can frighten me!
Hercules: (referring to Iolaus' fiancée) Unless of course it's more of Ania's cooking.

    • ALLUSIONS (2)

      • One of the real Hercules' 12 labors was to defeat the Lernean Hydra. This is the one labor he could not have succeeded in without the help of Iolaus. Each time Hercules cut off one of its heads two sprouted from the trunk until Iolaus cauterized it with a torch. Even then it had one more head that was immortal, so Hercules cut it off and buried it. It was still alive, but rendered helpless.

      • In Greek mythology (and possibly in reality), the Amazons were a nation of warrior women. Hippolyta was a notable queen of the Amazons. She was visited by Hercules and Theseus during one of Hercules' labors, and Theseus took her as his wife. Amazonian raiders were often depicted in battle with Greek warriors in classical art. According to myth, no men were permitted in Amazon country, but once a year, in order to prevent their race from dying out, they visited men of a neighboring tribe. The sons that they had were either left with their fathers, or killed. The daughters were brought up and trained by the tribe. It is said that the Amazons founded many cities and fought some well known battles.
