Hercules Unchained is a fanciful interpretation of many legends about Hercules, the mythical Greek hero, warrior and strongman. This campy but thoroughly entertaining movie spares no expense nor spectacle and gives the audience a front-row seat as Hercules (played by Steve Reeves) and his companion Ulysses (played by Gabriele Antonini) make a perilous journey to Thebes. The pair meets with constant danger along the way, and must defeat terrifying wild animals and supernatural beings to safely reach their destination. Hercules laughs in the face of these dangers, but he must also resist the beautiful and sensual temptress Queen Omphale of Lydia, who will stop at nothing to make him her lover. Hercules Unchained treats viewers to unbridled spectacle and sumptuous excess; many scenes include several hundred intricately-costumed extras. This film, which features English lines dubbed over the original Italian, is a "must see" for fans of fantasy and adventure movies; it has also proven popular with fans of Italian cinema.
